I’m a Molecular Biologist from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. I lived for a long time in Ottawa while I was a student and since then I’ve been lucky enough to have lived and worked around the world, including London, England and Singapore.
My wife and I recently moved to the island of Nevis in the West Indies where I’ve begun working as an Assistant Professor, teaching Biochemistry and Genetics at the Medical University of the Americas. It’s a beautiful place and hopefully I will be able to write a bit about Nevis as I learn about it.
Outside of science I have a strong interest in open source software and I’m a bit of a Linux geek. I love many outdoor activites, especially mountain biking and scuba diving. And I’m a die-hard fan of the Ottawa Senators. Hopefully someday they’ll pay off my dedication with a Stanley Cup victory. Unfortunately it looks like it won’t happen any time soon.
Oh, and if you’re wondering about the name of this website – sojyujai – is my attempt at Romanizing the Chinese 傻豬仔. In Cantonese it’s pronounced ‘So Jyu Jai’ or maybe ‘So Jyu Zai’ (I’m not very good at Chinese pronunciations). It’s one of my wifes nicknames for me and means ‘Silly Pig Boy’. She assures me in Chinese it’s meant to be cute and not an insult as it sounds in English.
